  • Could there be a better way to learn about history in Rome than taking a wander through the streets with a local? Didn’t think so! Wander through ancient Rome with an expert, local licensed guide on this Rome city tour that is factual and fun both at the same time!

You meet your local, licensed guide, an expert in archaeology and history and head to the Colosseum right away, bypassing the hassle of lining up as you enter straight into this infamous international treasure.

Wander through the Colosseum, the largest amphitheatre ever made by the Romans, and admire this vast structure that could seat more than 50,000 people. Climb up to the second tier and marvel at the arena where the gladiators fought for their lives and where all kinds of Rome events took place. Learn about its fascinating history before continuing the walking tour of Rome to the Roman Forum. Once the political and religious center of ancient Rome, the Forum’s origins date back to the 7th century BC. With your local guide, you bring history to life and gain a fresh perspective on these famous places, which makes your experience far more unique than that of the thousands of others of travellers that visit these ruins each day.

During this Rome tour, you start to understand the life of the ancient Romans as you admire the imposing Arch of Constantine. You’re able to imagine those gloriously epic parades, brought to life through the words of your guide. Together, we enter the Roman Forum, the beating heart of the ancient city and visit the Forum’s most important buildings and temples, including: the Temple of Augustus where the funeral of Julius Caesar took place, the Via Sacra (Holy Road), which is the most important road in Rome, and the Curia, the meeting place of the Roman Senate.

We admire the imposing Basilicas where the ancient court once was, imagining judges, criminals and lawyers debating and yelling at one another!

Exiting the Forum, we say goodbye here – but if you’re in the mood for more Rome our guide can give you some recommendations

Please note: this private Rome tour is priced for a minimum group size of two travellers. A solo traveller may still book this private experience but will be charged the base rate for two travellers.

  • Ms. Samantha O. from New Zealand travelled on 23 Jun 2018:

Our guide was Grace and we did the Rome Archaelogical Discovery Tour. It was the best tour we did on our trip. Grace was amazing and we learnt do much. She was prepared with photos and knew so much. She answered all of our questions. This tour is a must to do on Rome and great value for money. I rate Urban Adventure tours as a top tour company and hope to do many more yours with them. Grace our tour guide was a art historian and was so passionate about the topic it really makes a difference to the tour when the guides are so knowledgable.

Mrs. Jill P. from Australia travelled on 04 Oct 2017:

Our tour group of 3 felt so lucky – Vanessa, our guide, is a qualified archaeologist! Her knowledge and enthusiasm was amazing. As we were in a small group we could discuss and ask questions as we went along (not headphones!!!). The in-depth information provided was above and beyond expectations. We got a little carried away and went past the finishing time but Vanessa continued to answer our questions. You really couldn’t get a better tour or a better guide.
Thank you Urban Adventures and Vanessa!!!

I had a great time. Vanessa understood my background and tailored the tour contents accordingly. Also she is a very kind and knowledgeable person with a passion to share her love for the topic. Great guide and great tour

Mr. Björn S. from travelled on 20 Oct 2013:

Vanessa was a fantastic guide, lively presenting the sights. It was so much more insightful to have a tour than just seeing the ruins on our own.

Ms. Alana D. from Australia travelled on 16 Jul 2013:

The tour was great! Valentina our guide was knowledgeable and friendly. The group was just my partner, Mum and me which was amazing and we got to skip the lines because technically we were a tour group. Valentina really made the history of the Colosseum, Roman Forum and Ancient Market Place come alive!

Mr. Anthony R. from Australia travelled on 20 Oct 2012:

    Very good tour
