Itinerary
Start your Rome tour at the beautiful Piazza Farnese. The piazza is home to a building designed by Michelangelo which is now the French embassy.
Walk to the nearby Campo de’ Fiori, the only square in Rome without a church. In the square’s food market there is plenty of time to mingle with the locals as they bargain with vendors for delicious products.
Stop at bakery where they make some of the best pizza rossa (with tomato and mozzarella) in Rome, as well as all sorts of bread, freshly baked and hot from the oven. From here we walk away from the crowds to Piazza Mattei to see the Turtle Fountain and enjoy the lively atmosphere with nearby bars bustling with Roman youth.
The next stop is the Jewish ghetto filled with kosher restaurants and shops. Learn about how the area was affected during the war and pass by the synagogue. Nearby is the Marcellus Theatre, an ancient Roman theatre that has been incorporated in Renaissance buildings. These buildings have been converted into homes that are thousands of years old.
Continue walking and climb the Capitoline hill to see the square designed by Michelangelo and the imposing statue of Marcus Aurelius. Reach the terrace for beautiful views over the Roman Forum.
Afterwards continue your walking tour to Piazza Venezia home to a huge monument to King Vittorio Emanuele II, known locally as “the typewriter” due to its shape. Then walk along Via dei Fori Imperiali and take in views of Rome’s archaeological sites. See the market of Trajan and the Forum of Augustus.
The final stop is the Colosseum, Rome’s most famous landmark. There is time left to take a look of the Arch of Constantine right in front of the Colosseum before the tour ends. Be sure to enter the Colosseum afterwards to explore the interior.
